Description

SP-KFA1009 Heater Spark Plug

Key Features

  • High-Temperature Ceramic Insulator:Features a thick ceramic core designed to withstand extreme thermal cycling and prevent electrical arcing to the heater chassis.
  • Corrosion-Resistant Electrode:The spark tip is constructed from specialized alloys to maintain a sharp ignition point and resist carbon fouling.
  • Precision Threading:Engineered for a secure fit within the burner assembly, ensuring consistent grounding for reliable spark generation.
  • High-Output Ignition:Designed to provide a high-voltage spark capable of igniting kerosene or diesel fuel in low-temperature environments.

Replaces / Cross-Reference Part Numbers

  • Primary Part Number:SP-KFA1009
  • Manufacturer Substitutions:VE53F, DFA400T2
  • Alternative Identification:2144-0010-00, 2144001000

Compatibility & Fitment

This spark plug is compatible with various 120,000 to 210,000 BTU forced-air (torpedo) heaters. It fits specific models within the following brands:
  • Dyna-Glo:KFA125DGD, KFA125H, KFA125L, KFA125WH, KFA170DGD, KFA170WH, KFA210DGD, KFA210H, KFA400DGD, KFA400PF2
  • Dura Heat:Various 125K, 170K, and 210K BTU kerosene models.
  • Thermoheat:High-output forced-air heater series.
  • WorkHorse & Pleasant Hearth:Specific models requiring the SP-KFA1009 specification.

When to Replace

  • No Ignition:The heater fan runs and fuel is spraying, but there is no spark to ignite the fuel.
  • Cracked Ceramic:Visible hairline cracks in the white ceramic insulator, which cause the spark to "leak" or short out before reaching the tip.
  • Fouled Tip:Heavy carbon deposits or soot buildup that bridges the gap between the electrode and the ground.
  • Eroded Electrode:The metal tip has burned away or shortened, making the gap too wide for the spark to jump.

Installation Tips

  • Gap Adjustment:Before installation, verify the spark gap is set to approximately 0.140 inches (3.5mm) or as specified by the manufacturer for optimal ignition.
  • Clean the Burner:Use a soft brush or compressed air to remove soot from the burner head before installing the new spark plug.
  • Avoid Over-tightening:Tighten the plug until snug; over-tightening can crack the ceramic insulator or strip the threads in the burner plate.
  • Wiring Inspection:Ensure the high-voltage ignition wire is firmly seated on the plug terminal and that the insulation is not melted or cracked.
  • Safety Check:Always disconnect the heater from the power source and ensure the unit is cool to the touch before performing maintenance.
