Description

Water Heater Magnesium Anode Rod

Key Features

  • Material: Solid Magnesium (AZ63 Alloy)
  • Function: Sacrificial rod protects steel water heater tanks from corrosion
  • Thread Size: 3/4 inch NPT male pipe thread
  • Rod Diameter: 0.84 inches
  • Rod Length: 32 inches
  • Required Socket Size: 1 1/16 inch hex head

Replaces / Cross-Reference Part Numbers

  • Substitutes for standard OEM magnesium anode rods in most residential water heaters.
  • Direct replacement for part numbers such as 239-43654-00, 100108511, and 9003820.

Compatibility & Fitment

  • Fits most standard residential gas and electric water heaters from 40 to 89 gallons.
  • Compatible with major brands including A.O. Smith, Bradford White, Rheem, American, GE, Richmond, and State.
  • Connects to the standard 3/4 inch NPT anode rod port on top of the water heater.

When to Replace

  • Inspect annually and replace every 3-5 years, or more frequently in areas with hard water.
  • Replace immediately if the steel core wire is visible.
  • Replace when the rod is less than 1/2 inch thick or is heavily pitted and corroded.
  • Note: If a sulfur or "rotten egg" smell is present in hot water, an aluminum or zinc-aluminum rod may be a more suitable alternative.

Installation Tips

  • Turn off the power (or gas) and cold water supply to the heater.
  • Slightly open a hot water faucet to relieve pressure, then drain several gallons from the tank.
  • Use a 1 1/16 inch socket with a breaker bar or impact wrench to remove the old anode rod.
  • Flush any sediment from the tank before installing the new rod.
  • Apply PTFE thread seal tape to the new rod's threads for a watertight seal.
  • Install the new rod, tighten securely, restore water and power, and check for leaks.
