When to Replace

  • No hot water or water is only lukewarm.
  • Hot water runs out much faster than usual.
  • Circuit breaker for the water heater trips frequently.
  • Popping, hissing, or rumbling sounds from the water tank.
  • Visible signs of calcification, corrosion, or physical damage on the existing element.

Installation Tips

  • Disconnect all electrical power to the water heater at the circuit breaker panel before servicing.
  • Shut off the cold water supply and drain the tank completely or to a level below the element being replaced.
  • Use an element wrench (1-1/2 inch socket) for removal and installation to avoid damaging the tank.
  • Ensure the new gasket is properly seated on the element before installation to form a watertight seal.
  • Refill the tank completely with water before restoring electrical power to prevent the element from dry-firing and failing.
