Description

40 uF/MFD 370-440VAC Round Run Start Capacitor

Key Features

  • Capacitance: 40 Microfarad (µF/MFD)
  • Tolerance: ±5% to ±6%
  • Voltage Rating: Dual 370V / 440V AC
  • Frequency: 50/60 Hz
  • Shape: Round
  • Construction: Aluminum case, steel cover
  • Terminals: 1/4 inch male quick-connect
  • Operating Temperature: -40° C to 85° C (-40° F to 185° F)
  • Safety Standard: UL recognized, 10,000 AFC protected
  • Dielectric: Non-PCB, metalized polypropylene film

Replaces / Cross-Reference Part Numbers

  • Replaces any round single-value capacitor with a 40 MFD rating and a voltage of 370V or 440V.
  • Compatible with industry part numbers including CBB65, 97F series, and others with matching specifications.
  • Substitutes for capacitors from multiple brands including Genteq, MARS, Packard, and Aerovox.

Compatibility & Fitment

  • Used in single-phase motor applications including HVAC compressors, condenser fan motors, furnace blowers, and heat pumps.
  • Physical dimensions are approximately 2.0 inches in diameter and 4.0 inches in height. Verify space in your unit before ordering as dimensions may vary slightly.
  • This is a single-value capacitor and is not a direct replacement for dual-run capacitors (e.g., 40/5 MFD) that have three separate terminal posts.

When to Replace

  • Motor hums but does not start or has difficulty starting.
  • Fan or blower requires a manual push to begin spinning.
  • Visible signs of damage on the existing capacitor, such as a swollen or bulging top, or fluid leakage.
  • Reduced performance or speed from the motor or compressor.

Installation Tips

  • Disconnect all electrical power to the equipment before beginning work.
  • Safely discharge the existing capacitor by carefully shorting across the terminals with an insulated screwdriver.
  • Note or photograph the wire connections before removing the old capacitor.
  • Connect the wires to the new capacitor in the same configuration. Polarity does not apply to AC run capacitors.
  • Secure the new capacitor in place using the original mounting bracket or strap.
  • Professional installation is recommended for those unfamiliar with electrical component replacement.
